Michelle was one of the driving forces behind Springfield Black Tie from its earliest days. She began volunteering with the organization in 2003, joined the Board of Directors in 2005, and served as Vice President for many years. Through her leadership, mentorship, and tireless dedication, she helped shape Springfield Black Tie into the community-driven organization it is today. Her influence extended far beyond the annual gala, leaving a lasting impact on the volunteers, board members, sponsors, and beneficiaries who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Her service reached well beyond Springfield Black Tie. Michelle devoted her life to strengthening the LGBTQ+ community through advocacy, volunteerism, and support for organizations and families across southwest Missouri. She believed that justice, fairness, and equality were not simply ideals—they were responsibilities. Whether leading a project, offering encouragement, or quietly stepping in wherever help was needed, Michelle made a profound difference in the lives of countless people.
Each year, Springfield Black Tie presents the Michelle Baltz Community Service Award to an individual whose leadership, service, and dedication have made a meaningful and lasting impact on the LGBTQ+ community. In celebrating these remarkable individuals, we also celebrate Michelle’s enduring legacy—a reminder that one person’s compassion, commitment, and willingness to serve can transform an entire community.
